Originally constructed for a Musicircus event at Wesleyan. There were at least 20 students participating, with staggered start and end times and positions assigned throughout the large, somewhat-resonant concert hall. I provided approximately 10 cones to wear, along with suggested zones where head-movement would lead to particularly pronounced filtering and shifts in tone.
I picked the idea back up for an event at Silverfish in Portland in 2024, where sound sources were distributed throughout the room and participants could walk through the overlapping fields of noise. I have made about 30 at this point.
I would be happy to mail you a cone of your own to wear. Get in touch!
I find that they are a great to bring to any situation involving large-group improvisation, but they are especially delightful in a quiet home or at the Kittery Rest Stop.
