Dear City Council,

I am writing in support of the proposed 750-foot buffer between large venues. I believe this is a common-sense measure to ensure that large-scale commercial venues are sited responsibly, and that the interests of City residents are prioritized.

Here are some concerns I have, which lead me to support the 750-foot buffer:

• Firstly, I would like to remind the Council of Live Nation's anti-competitive business practices, which would harm the locally-owned arts economy.
  
  
• Constructing the new music hall within 750 feet of the Merrill Auditorium would create a congestion and parking nightmare. This would choke out access to the rest of Portland's businesses by creating a critical overload of cars on a regular basis.
  
  
• The traffic congestion would create a dangerous environment for pedestrians and cyclists, especially near Franklin Arterial. If the City is serious about achieving Vision Zero, it cannot afford to have two large venues less than 750 feet from each other.
  
  
• Finally, two venues in such close proximity would mean that emergency vehicles and first responders would not be able to reach their destinations in a timely manner. It would also lead to unsafe conditions should either of these venues need to evacuate.

I hope that City Council is able to see past the pressure that accompanies interacting with a large developer and do right by its constituents, who overwhelmingly reject this proposed music hall and support the implementation of the increased buffer zone.
